123 <br /> quota of Federal Funds which may be available for highway construction <br /> under the 4 , gg0 million dollar work relief bill recently adopted by <br /> the Congress of the United States , be used for the necessary labor and <br /> material in the actual construction and improvement of said project <br /> after said right-of-way has been secured by said local and state funds . <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLD that the City of Redwood City request <br /> the assistance of the good offices of the California Highway Commission <br /> in obtaining a sufficient allocation of Federal money from said 40gg0 <br /> million dollar Work Relief Bill to accomplish said widening and im- <br /> provement of said El Camino Real through Redwood City. <br /> Following a discussion concerning the work desired to be done on the Woodside Road and the <br /> funds promised by the County Board of Supervisors , the City Manager was instructed to <br /> check up on this to see that the money was set aside for the purpose , and the Clerk <br /> was instructed to write the Supervisors to this effect . <br /> The City Manager called the attention of the Council to the hearing to be held May 2 on the <br /> evaluation of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company ' s electrical plant for the purpose <br /> of final acquisition by the City of Redwood City , and suggested that it might be the <br /> best plan immediately to set aside in a special fund $3 ,000 toward the expense of this <br /> evaluation by the Railroad Commission. On motion of Councilman Jones , seconded by <br /> Councilman McCarthy , the City Treasurer was so instructed , Councilmen Fletcher and <br /> Christensen voting "No" . <br /> The question of passing an ordinance in regard to the annoyance caused by roosters crowing <br /> early in the morning was laid on the table , on motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded <br /> by Councilman McNulty. <br /> On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty , it was decided again to <br /> take space in the California Real Estate Magazine , the cost not to exceed $55. <br /> On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , the Council went on <br /> record as favoring the closing of all business establishments on Memorial Day , July 4 , <br /> Admission Day , Labor Day , Armistice Day and Christmas , and requested the Clerk to convey <br /> this information to the Chamber of Commerce , with the suggestion that all the merchants <br /> be asked to cooperate toward this end. <br /> In consideration of the fact that one bank has refused City funds and the other has limited <br /> the amount which it would receive and on which it would pay the required 2% interest , <br /> and the further fact that total deposits would run in excess of this maximum amount and <br /> as a consequence the City Treasurer could not properly dispose of such excess , Councilman <br /> McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , moved that the City Treasurer be instructed and <br /> authorized to buy United States 3% Bonds maturing 1946-U8 in an amount not to exceed <br /> $50 ,000 . Unanimously carried. <br /> The City Treasurer was also authorized to buy $1 , 500 par value Redwood City Municipal <br /> Bonds of 1900 , on motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Fletcher . <br /> The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman <br /> Fletcher. <br /> Adjournment . <br /> City Clerk%' <br /> BEM: MR <br /> zzv <br />
