<br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor , C . G. Lambert , L . C . Christensen ,
<br /> J. M . Eva , E. A. Fletcher , R. N. Jones , P . A. McCarthy , Geo . W. McNulty , City Clerk , B . E .
<br /> Myers . Absent : None .
<br /> The minutes of the meeting of April 15 , 1935 , were approved on motion of Councilman McCarthy ,
<br /> seconded by Councilman Fletcher .
<br /> After filing affidavit of posting notices to destroy weeds , submitted by C . L . Dimmitt , Street
<br /> Superintendent , Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva , proposed the adoption of
<br /> the following resolution requiring the abatement of weeds throughout the City.
<br /> "WHEREAS , the Council of the City of Redwood City did , on the 1st
<br /> day of April , 1935 , pass and adopt Resolution Declaring Nuisance No .R--1 ,
<br /> in which resolution it was declared certain .noxious or dangerous weed were
<br /> growing upon all of the sidewalks , streets , avenues , roads , boulevards and
<br /> highways in said city and upon all of the lots and property in said city ,
<br /> which weeds are of a kind which bear seeds of a wingy or downy nature and
<br /> will attain such large growth as to become a fire menace when dry , and that
<br /> said weeds constitute a public nuisance .
<br /> AND WHEREAS , after the passage of said Resolution Declaring Nuis-
<br /> ance No . R-1 the Street Superintendent of the City of Redwood City duly and
<br /> regularly posted notices of the passage of said resolution in time , form ,
<br /> number and manner as required by law .
<br /> AND WHEREAS , at the time fixed in said notices and in said
<br /> resolution when objections to the removal of such weeds would be heard
<br /> and given consideration by the Council of said City of Redwood City , no
<br /> objections of any kind were made against the removal of such weeds , and
<br /> said Council now having acquired jurisdiction thereon:
<br /> THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood
<br /> City that the Superintendent of Streets of said city be and he is hereby
<br /> ordered and directed to abate the nuisance existing as specified and set
<br /> forth in said Resolution Declaring Nuisance No . R-1 , as provided by law. "
<br /> Wayne R. Millington , Attorney , representing Joe Wasserman , made application for permit to
<br /> operate an automobile wrecking business at 1135 Main Street . Accompanying the applica-
<br /> tion was a deposit of $100 as required by the ordinance . On motion of Councilman Fletcher ,
<br /> seconded by Councilman Eva, it was decided to make the necessary publication and posting
<br /> to arrange for a hearing on the application.
<br /> Capt . H . J . Reilly , Camp #14 , United Spanish War Veterans , petitioned the Council in a
<br /> letter , signed by Henry W. Edmonds and Philip Owen , to pass a resolution asking our
<br /> State Representatives to give favorable consideration to bill H.R. 6995 . The Mayor
<br /> asked former Councilman E . B . Hinman , a Spanish War Veteran , to explain the condition
<br /> surrounding this request . Following his discussion, the Council unanimously adopted the
<br /> resolution on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty.
<br /> It had been decided to bring up for discussion the status of the Hudson Street widening and
<br /> extension , but in the absence of the City Attorney the matter was laid over until the
<br /> next meeting .
<br /> Councilman Fletcher gave as his opinion that it would be desirable to extend Broadway eastward
<br /> to connect with the Bayshore Highway . Also , that Rogers Street should be likewise extended
<br /> to connect with the Bayshore Highway, After considerable discussion , it was decided on
<br /> motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Christensen , to refer the matter to
