126
Further discussion of the opening and extension of Hudson Street was laid over until the
second meeting in June , ( the 17th) .
On motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva , the City Attorney was instructed
to draft an ordinance for the adoption by reference of the Pacific Coast Building Offi -
cials ' Uniform Building Code .
Considerable discussion was had concerning the possibility of refunding delinquent and non-
matured 1915 Act bonds , and it was thought possible that such a plan might be worked
out provided proper legislation were effected. The City Treasurer asked the Council
what action would be taken about the payment of accrued interest on defaulted bonds
during the present fiscal year and the ensuing year . Some of the Councilmen were un-
favorable toward increasing the tax rate for this purpose , but on motion of Councilman
Jones , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , it was decided to make provision for all interest
coupons due and unpaid up to June 30 , 1935 , and also to pay accrued interest on all de-
faulted bonds , which would be due and payable January , 1935 , and July , 1935 , Councilmen
Fletcher , Eva and Christensen voting "No" .
The special claim of Mrs . L . A. Alexander and William W. Gillespie for refund of assessment
collected from them in error covering 24 . 7 feet on Roosevelt Avenue , in the amount of
$79 . 31 , which should have been assessed to the City and County of San Francisco , was
allowed and ordered paid on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Eva.
The City Manager explained the need for a new roller , that the present one was very old and
required repairs very frequently , and that it might be economical to purchase another
one . He mentioned a used roller which he thought he could buy profitably , and on
motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman McNulty , he was authorized to
purchase the roller at the best possible terms.
The City Attorney explained , in connection with the funds set up for the Railroad Commission ' s
evaluation of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company ' s Electric Utility property , that
the Commission required the fund to be available when needed. On motion of Councilman
McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Jones , the Treasurer was directed to make this $3 , 000 ,
or any part of it , available to the Railroad Commission when requested by the Commission ,
Councilmen Fletcher , Christensen and Eva voting "No " .
Floyd Granger told the Council that the ladies of the various organizations using the
Veterans Hall desired some sort of light at the front entrance , and the City Manager
was asked to investigate and take care of the situation.
Councilman Eva praised the City Manager for the good layout of the soft ball court , but
called attention to the unsightly appearance of the back yards of property adjacent
to the ball park . The matter was referred to the Health Officer to investigate .
The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman
Jones .
Adjournment .
.O I 1
A
City Clerk
BEM: MR
