x. 43 <br /> MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> AUGUST 19 , 1935 <br /> 5 : 00 P . M . <br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor , C . G. Lambert , L . C. Christensen , <br /> E. A. Fletcher , R. N. Jones , P. A. McCarthy , G. W. McNulty. City Clerk , B . E . Myers . <br /> Absent : Councilman J. M. Eva, <br /> The minutes of the meetings of August 5 and August 12 , 1935 , were approved on motion of Councilman <br /> Pletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br /> Mayor Lambert re-appointed John Gill to serve on the Planning Commission , and his appointment was <br /> confirmed by the Council on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br /> Discussion was had concerning the acceptance of a Deed from the Tacoma Mill Company for a strip <br /> of land to be used for the extension of Rogers Street , but the resolution in connection with <br /> the Deed was not entirely clear , and the matter was held in abeyance until Councilman McCarthy <br /> could see Mr . C . H. Holt about surfacing; the street area. <br /> On motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Jones , C. G. Uhlenberg was re-appointed <br /> as special City Auditor for the ensuing year of 1935-1936 , for a compensation not to exceed <br /> $425 , 00 . <br /> The City Manager presented a recommendation that certain minor adjustments in the City payroll be <br /> made whereby four employees would receive slight increases of pay, but the matter was put <br /> over until the next meeting. <br /> Councilman Fletcher suggested that a drinking; fountain be installed at the tennis courts , and on <br /> his motion , seconded by Councilman McNulty, the City Manager was so instructed. <br /> On motion of Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , the City Attorney was requested <br /> to prepare an ordinance changing the names of Hawes Street and Myrtle Si:reet east of <br /> Jefferson Avenue by reversing them. <br /> Upon motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Jones , the City ManaPer was authorized <br /> to put on an extra Paid fireman. <br /> Upon motion of Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman McNulty , ordinance fixing the tax rate <br /> for the ensuing year was introduced. <br /> On motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman McNulty , it was decided , in connection <br /> with the tax rate for 1935-1936 , that if the bond election for $425 , 000 . should carry , the <br /> tax rate should be reduced 200 , bringing the maximum rate down to $1 . 15. <br /> On motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Jones , the City Treasurer was authorized <br /> to send to Stone & Youngberg the names of all the 1915 Act Bondholders shown on his records . <br /> For the purpose of establishing a definite policy on the part of the Council concerning the <br /> special election to clear up the 1915 Bond Act situation , it was decided to adopt , on <br /> motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Christensen , the declaration of policy <br /> as formulated by Stone & Youngberg. <br /> Decision concerning the payment of the Stone & Youngberg bill for preliminary expenses was -out <br /> over until the next meeting. <br />
