MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
<br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
<br /> APRIL 6 , 1936
<br /> 3 : 00 P.M.
<br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor , C . G. Lambert , L. C . Christensen ,
<br /> J. M. Eva , E . A. Fletcher , R. N. Jones , P. A. McCarthy , Geo . W. McNulty and City Clerk ,
<br /> B. E . Myers. Absent : None .
<br /> The minutes of the meeting of March 1. 6 , 1936 , were approved on motion of Councilman McNulty ,
<br /> seconded by Councilman Eva.
<br /> After filing affidavit of publication , Ordinance No . 371 , regulating permits to sell or solicit
<br /> for the sale of any goods in Redwood City , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by
<br /> Councilman Christensen , was unanimously adopted.
<br /> The Burlingame Chamber of Commerce , by its president , C. S . Manwell , asked that the Redwood
<br /> City Council be represented at a meeting in Burlingame , April 10 , to join in a discussion
<br /> relative to an organization to secure proper recognition on the part of San Francisco in
<br /> its proposed rapid transit system. It was decided to have a representative attend , and
<br /> Councilman Fletcher was appointed.
<br /> Dan Flynn , representing the owners of a number of lots in Redwood Park , asked. the Council if
<br /> arrangements could be made to have the engineering department help in surfacing the
<br /> streets in order to make the lots more salable . It was decided , on motion of Councilman
<br /> Christensen , seconded by Councilman Eva, that the City engineering; department set the
<br /> grades for the streets , and that Mr . Flynn , et al , be allowed the use of the City ' s
<br /> roller and operator.
<br /> A group of Redwood City barbers submitted to the Council a proposed ordinance regulating the
<br /> hours of opening and closing of barber shops . On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded
<br /> by Councilman McNulty , the ordinance was introduced , with Councilman Christensen voting "No" .
<br /> A communication from the San Mateo Typographical Union No . 624 asking the Council to patronize
<br /> home industry by requiring the use of the Typographical Union label on all printed matter
<br /> purchased by the City of Redwood City was laid over until the next meeting.
<br /> In a communication to the Council , Stone & Youngberg offered to sell to the City 1915 Act
<br /> Bonds , par value $5 , 300 , for net figure of $ 4 , 772. 50 , and on motion of Councilman

<br /> Christensen , seconded by Councilman Eva , the City Treasurer was authorized to purchase
<br /> the bonds and draw the necessary warrant .
<br /> George W. Paulsen , Sales Manager for George S. Paddleford , Inc . , asked permission of the
<br /> Council to set up a "used car" lot at the north corner of James Street and El Canino
<br /> Real as it was necessary for his firm to move from its present location. As this
<br /> seemed to be a matter for the Planning Commission to pass on first , on motion of
<br /> Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva , it was referred to that Body , with
<br /> the understanding; that the Council would approve if recommended by the Planning
<br /> Commission.
<br /> The claim of Lucile K. Gillis was brought tin for further consideration , but as her attorney ,
<br /> Mr. Wayne Millington , did not wish to compromise on the figure suggested by the Council ,
