192
it was decided to hold. the matter over until the next meeting , and that members of the
Council would examine the sidewalk where Mrs. Gillis was injured.
The City Manager was asked to report to Mr. O ' Dea concerning the Airport Lease .
The proposed ordinance requiring that dogs be on leash was laid over for four weeks .
There was considerable discussion concerning the placing of signals along the Southern
Pacific track and more particularly at the Jefferson Avenue crossing. The Council felt
that a manually operated signal should be installed at Jefferson Avenue , but in its
proposal the Southern_ Pacific Company had indicated nothing more than an automatic
signal . Councilmen Christensen , Fletcher and Lambert were instructed to continue as
a committee on railroad signals and to formulate some plan v'hich would be acceptable
to the Railroad Company.
City Manager , Dimmitt , reported that he had been notified that an order had been issued
by the State Highway Department that the parking on Main Street be painted for parallel
parking instead of the present diagonal , and requesting the cooperation of the local
police when this work is undertaken by them. The Council wished to go on record as
protesting this action because it greatly interferes with the convenience of local
people . Consequently , the Manager was asked to write the Highway Commission to this
effect .
A letter from C . G. Uhlenberg , Special Auditor , indicating his check of the records was
satisfactory , was ordered filed.
Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva , proposed the adoption of a resolution
requiring the placing of a " Stop" sign on the southwesterly curb line of Broadway
at the westerly line of Main Street , and also a sign reading " right turns permitted
at all times " . Carried.
The City Clerk was instructed to look up the garbage contract and arrange to take up
consideration of renewal in sufficient time to allow complete investigation.
The departmental reports were ordered filed .
The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman Mcltulty , seconded by
Councilman Fletcher .
Adj ournment .
City Clerk r
1
BEM :MR
