238 <br /> the Council taking such steps as necessary to protect the city from outside interest ? <br /> taking advantage of the harbor. set-up . On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded <br /> by Councilman Eva, the City Attorney and the City Manager were authorized to proceed <br /> to take whatever steps may be necessary for the annexation of the land affected. <br /> Thos , Kane , Manager of the Sequoia Theatre , and Robert Pearson , Manager of the Redwood <br /> Theatre , appeared before the Council to assure the Council they would cooperate in <br /> every way in eliminating any fire hazards due to the congestion of persons in the <br /> aisles or vestibule . On the strength of this assurance , the Council decided to <br /> postpone legislation. <br /> C. S . Grandi appeared before the Council to ask permission to make a quotation covering <br /> the insurance on the automobile fleet for fire , theft and collision when renewals <br /> were due , indicating that he could save the city some money. The matter was re- <br /> ferred to the insurance committee and the Clerk instructed to bring the question <br /> up at the next meeting. <br /> The City Manager told the Council that the local merchants , in addition to depositing <br /> with the city the $375 they had promised , had also turned in an extra $100 to apply <br /> toward the expense Of Christmas decorations . The Ceuncil , on motion of Councilman <br /> Christensen , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , then decided to appropriate an addi- <br /> tional $100 from city funds to match this money. <br /> y y. <br /> Councilman Eva asked what had been done about traffic signals at the various railroad <br /> crossings and indicated that something definite should be decided. After consider- <br /> able discussion , it was thought best to delay the matter until the next meeting and <br /> permit the committee on crossing signals to prepare some definite plan or type of <br /> signals to be recommended to the Council . <br /> The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by <br /> Councilman Eva. <br /> Adjournment . <br /> t <br /> City Clerk rr <br /> BENT: MR <br />
