<br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
<br /> APRIL 5 , 1937

<br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor Paul A. McCarthy , L. C . Chris-
<br /> tensen , J. M. Eva , E. A. Fletcher , Wm. Hohn , R. N. Jones , G. W. McNulty and City Clerk ,
<br /> B . E. Myers . Absent : None .
<br /> The minutes of the regular meeting of March 15 and the epecial meeting; of March 22 , 1937 ,
<br /> were approved on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Hohn.
<br /> A. J. Walauskis , living in Friendly Acres , made application for electrician ' s license ,
<br /> said application being approved by the Building Inspector , and accompanied by a check
<br /> for the necessary fee . Upon motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman
<br /> McNulty , application was granted subject to proper bond being furnished.
<br /> The Redwood Highlands Company , by its Secretary , Mrs . Chapman , asked permission to divide
<br /> Lot g , Block 1 , and Lot 1 of Block 5 , Oak Knoll Manor , into trio parcels each. As
<br /> this request had already been approved and recommended by the Planning Commission , on
<br /> motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Hohn , permission was granted
<br /> according to the request .
<br /> At this time there came up for discussion the question of granting to the Humane Society ,
<br /> for its Pet and Hobby Show , the use of the Veterans ' Building on Mezes Plaza. The
<br /> United Veterans ' Council of Redwood City filed a resolution , supported by a letter ,
<br /> giving details and arguments protesting the granting of permission to use the hall
<br /> for this purpose . Several persons spoke , including Mrs. John Ryan , Thos . Vernall
<br /> and A. J. Dempsey . Councilman Jones proposed that the Council give no permission for
<br /> the use of the hall without the consent of the United Veterans ' Council . There was
<br /> no second to the motion. Without taking formal action , the Council indicated its
<br /> unwillingness to grant permission , but suggested to Mrs . Ryan , representing the
<br /> Humane Society , that perhaps the City Manager could help her to find a suitable place
<br /> for holding the Pet and Hobby Shove.
<br /> The City Manager made progress report concerning the tree planting along the Bayshore
<br /> Blvd. , and indicated that some trees would be planted soon.
<br /> The City Planning Commission reported that it had consented and recommended to the Council
<br /> the changing of set back lines as follows :
<br /> On the northerly side of East Fuller Street , from the south-
<br /> easterly side of Winslow Street to the westerly side of Jefferson
<br /> Avenue be changed from 10 ft . to 6 ft . 8 inches , and on the south-
<br /> erly side of East Fuller Street , between Winslow Street and
<br /> Jefferson Avenue , be changed from 10 ft . to 6 ft . g inches .
<br /> Accordingly, the Council granted the request that the set back lines be established ,
<br /> as desired , and as recommended by the Planning Commission , and to make this effective ,
<br /> an ordinance was introduced , on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Coun-
<br /> cilman Jones , covering the changes mentioned and setting April 19 , 1937 , at g o ' clock
<br /> p. m. as the time for a public hearing.
<br /> On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty , there was introduced an
<br /> ordinance amending the regular salary ordinance and estab` ishing the salary of the
