295
Mr . Norman_ S. Menifee appeared before the Council for Mrs . John Ryan ( of the Humane
Society) in answer to the Clerk ' s request that the Society inform the Council
concerning its attitude toward a new ordinance requiring closer control over
dogs . Mr. Menifee indicated that the Society did not desire to object to any
ordinance the City Council should think necessary to pass . It was suggested
that perhaps Mr. Menifee could work with the City Attorney to find a solution
of this situation .
Joseph Fitzpatrick , representing Peter Besozzi , requested that Mr. Besozzi be given
permission to add 27 feet to his frame building on E1. Camino Real below Five
Points . The change requested by Mr . Besozzi was recommended by the Planning
Commission due to the fact that the desired addition to the property could not
be made in front because of the widening of the highway. On motion of
Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , the permission was
granted. At the same time , It was decided to change the fire district
ordinance to give the Council discretion to permit alterations or additions
to existing frame buildings in the fire zone . The attorney accordingly was
asked to prepare such an amendment , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded
by Councilman Jones .
Consideration of pin ball games was laid over until the second meeting in June , and
report on new City Hall was laid over until the next meeting .
In connection with Senate Bill No . Igo having to do with 5% limitation on City
Budgets , the City Attorney, on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by
Councilman Fletcher , was authorized to write to Assemblyman Harrison M . Call
to oppose the legislation .
On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Christensen , it was
decided to appropriate , and ordered expended, $35 from the City Advertising
Fund for advertisement of the Port of Redwood City in the Wall Street
Journal .
In a letter from the Southern Pacific Company , submitted by the City Manager , the
City was asked to pave the unpaved portion of James Avenue to the line of the
Southern Pacific property. The Manager was instructed to write the Company
that there were no funds available for such a purpose .
On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Christensen, Affidavit of
the City Clerk of Notification of Election Officers and Mailing of Sample
Ballots , was ordered filed.
Following this , the election returns for the harbor lands election were canvassed
and the tally list showed 4 votes for , with none against the proposition .
Therefore , on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman
Fletcher , the election was declared carried, and the territory annexed to
the City of Redwood City .
