312 "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , That other groups of employees and other employers be urged to show the same intelligence , moderation and con- sideration for the rights of each other and their mutual duties to each other to the end that this region may avoid the bitter strife that in other parts of this country too frequently followed differences between employers and employees over wages , working conditions , rights of collec- tive bargaining and other industrial and economic questions; "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , That copies of this resolution , certified by the Clerk of this council , be forward to Pacific Portland Cement Company , United Cement Workers Union , Local 760 , International Associa- tion of Machinists , Local 6g , Electricians Union 617 and Carpenters Union . " Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , proposed the adoption of the following resolution which was unanimously carried: "WHEREAS , AUXILIARY OF PENINSULA HOSPITALS has been organized by prominent women of Redwood City and other parts of Southern San Mateo County to assist those in need of hospital care and who are unable im- mediately to Pay for it , and to carry on practical social work in con- nection with the hospitals of this region; and "WHEREAS , said Auxiliary of Peninsula Hospitals will supply in this vicinity an important social economic and charitable need and is there- fore to be encouraged and given approval by regularly constituted public bodies; "NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Redwood City , that said Auxiliary and the organizers and members thereof be commended in this new undertaking; "FURTHER RESOLVED , That this Council express its gratitude and apprec- iation to the organizers and members of said Auxiliary for their public spirited action in promoting and developing said Auxiliary to render aid to worthy needy persons in this region; "FURTHER RESOLVED , That citizens of Southern San Mateo County whose -- means or income enables them to contribute to the maintenance of said Auxiliary be urged to give financial support to said Auxiliary to the end that it may be enabled to accomplish its purposes with the promptness and to the extent intended by the founders thereof; "FURTHER RESOLVED , that a copy of this resolution , certified by clerk of this Council be forwarded to Mrs . Henry Beeger , secretary of said Auxiliary. " On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty, Councilman Christensen was given permission to leave the state. Councilman Eva indicated that he wished the Council to give consideration to the establishment of a civil service for municipal employees , and in order to have the subject properly presented, the Mayor appointed a committee for this purpose consisting of Councilman Eva as chairman, Mayor McCarthy , and Council- man Christensen. The following matters were laid over until the next meeting: 1 . Discussion concerning new City Hall 2 . Stone and Youngberg letter. 3. Municipal bus line . 4. James Avenue sidewalk. The departmental reports were ordered filed. The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman Christensen.
