458 <br /> MINUTES OF ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> OCTOBER 10 , 1938 <br /> 8 : 00 P . M. <br /> Upon roll call the following were present : Councilmen H . F . Anderson , E . A . Fletcher , <br /> rm . Hohn , R . N . Jones , P . A . McCarthy , C . W . McNulty , Mayor L . C . Christensen , <br /> and City Clerk B . E . Myers . <br /> Mr . Walter Vandervort appeared before the Council to say that he did not think it <br /> would be possible tD continue his bus routes . Pertinent to the discussion, there <br /> was read a letter from the Chamber of Commerce indicating that the retail merchants <br /> did not care to support the bus line to the extent of raising :x'200 a month and <br /> suggested that the City take a straw vote of the people of the community as to <br /> the desirability of the City advancing the t200 a month . Councilman Fletcher <br /> voiced the opinion that the City should arrange a payment of ''1OO a month provided <br /> that outside interests obtained the other : 100 a month . Mr . Fletcher was to carry <br /> this proposal to the retail merchants of the Chamber of Commerce . <br /> On motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , there was adopted <br /> kibi en frk1 a 4‘ .3 <br /> resolutions accepting 173 deeds for properties taken over in connection with the <br /> delinquent tax campaign . <br /> On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty, there was intro- <br /> duced an ordinance fixing the place of meeting of the Council of the City of Red- <br /> wood City . <br /> On motion of Councilman "cNulty, seconded by Councilman Hohn, there was introduced an <br /> ordinance providing for the incurring of an indebtedness in the sum of :t497, 000 <br /> for the improvements to the City Hall and a new main Library building and for <br /> the issuance of the necessary bonds . <br /> On motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman McNulty , there was introduced <br /> ordinance jmendinE, Ordinance No . 751 relating to the Rid.ith of buildings end set- <br /> backs from property line . <br /> On motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , ¢ 750 from the budget <br /> item for donations Was ordered paid to the Community Chest . <br /> Councilman McCarthy discussed the advisability of investing; surplus monies in State of. <br /> California 21 percent warrants . He referred to a letter from Heller , Bruce and <br /> Co . suggesting such a purchase and Howard Brown of the same company was present <br /> to discuss the purchase with the Council . It was finally decided , on motion of <br /> Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Anderson, that the City purchase <br /> t10 , 000 of the state warrants and. the City Treasurer was authorized to make the <br /> purchase . <br />
