L <br /> On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty , application of <br /> the Veterans ' Welfare Board for cancellation of taxes against property assessed <br /> to Sydney B . MacKenzie was denied. <br /> A letter from Attorney Norman Menifee notifying the Council that he had a claim in <br /> the case of Ruellan vs. City of Redwood City was referred to the City Attorney. <br /> Walter Vandervort presented a letter asking permission to change the narking area <br /> for the Middlefield Bus from Argaello and Broadway to the Greyhound Bus Station <br /> at Brewster Avenue and El Camino Real , including permission to travel over <br /> portions of Broadway, Perry Street , Brewster Avenue and El Camino Real required <br /> in using the new location. Permission as requested was granted on motion of <br /> Councilman Hohn , seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br /> A letter from the Redwood City Lions Club , pertaining to the planting of trees along <br /> Bayshore Highway was referred to the City Manager. <br /> Another letter from the Lions Club urging the extension of Broadway to the Bayshore <br /> • <br /> Highway was also referred to the City Manager. <br /> GAswge A. Merrill in a letter asked if the Council thought it in order to pay the <br /> County tax ( $37. 22) on the Valley & Coast Warehouse Company parcel now in <br /> escrow. The tax was ordered paid on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded <br /> by Councilman McCarthy. <br /> The Auxiliary of the Peninsula Hospitals made a report on its Hospital Survey. The <br /> clerk was asked to acknowledge the report and to express to the members of the <br /> Committee the thanks and appreciation of the Councilmen for the effort expended <br /> to make such a thorough survey. <br /> Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , proposed adoption of the <br /> following Resolution: <br /> "RESOLUTION <br /> WHEREAS the City of Redwood City did , on the 4th day of November , 193g , <br /> pursuant to proceedings duly had and taken , sell $97 , 000 trincinal amount <br /> of Municipal Improvement Bonds of 193g of the City of Redwood City to the <br /> Bankamerica Company and the American Trust Company for par , accrued interest <br /> to date of delivery and a premium of $152. The interest on the first <br /> $20,000 of said bonds maturing to be on a five ( 5%) per cent . basis and <br /> the last $77 , 000 of said bonds maturing to be on a two and one-half ( 20) per <br /> cent . interest basis. <br /> AND WHEREAS said bonds are dated November 1st , 193g , the principal <br /> maturing from November 1st , 1939 yearly to and including 1957 and the <br /> interest payable semi-annually on the 1st day of November and the 1st day <br /> of May of each year commencing on the 1st day of May , 1939 . <br /> NOW 1THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood <br /> City as follows: <br /> That the City of Redwood City acknowledges the City ' s responsibility <br /> in regard to servicing the above mentioned bonds and agrees out of its <br /> general fund to pay the interest falling due on said bonds on May 1st , 1939 <br /> and further agrees in fixing the tax levy for the fiscal year of 1939-1940 <br /> to include therein a sufficient tax to pay for the servicing of said bonds <br /> and interest up to the levying of subsequent tax rates. <br /> 473 <br />
