372
on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , Ordinance
No 405 making it unlawful to park or permit automobiles to stand upon the
alley in Hares Park was unanimously adopted .
Phillip Marlow asked the Council whether or not unsightly buildings near the corner
of Roosevelt and Ramona could be removed as a client of his desired to put up
some attractive buildings nearby . On motion of Councilman Eva , seconded by
Councilman Christensen , the Building Inspector was asked to see the owner per-
sonally or by mail and notify him to put the property in suitable condition
because of the intended improvements .
After some discussion , it was decided to "lay on the table" further consideration
of the old Central School building as a City Hall , on motion of Councilman
Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Hohn . In the same connection , the City
Manager was asked to give consideration to the enlargement of the present City
Hall or a new building adjacent to it .
The attorney reported he was in touch with the title company about the title to the
library property and thought he could give a definite answer at the meeting of
March 21 .
The City Attorney also indicated that he was not ready to present an ordinance con-
cerning termite control , but that at the next meeting he thought he could pro-
pose proper measures to take , either by passing an ordinance or adopting the
uniform building code .
The Building Inspector reported concerning the old building near Stambaugh and Cedar
Streets , and indicated that one of the owners seemed willing to cooperate with
the city . On motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman Eva,
the Mayor was asked to appoint a committee to see this owner and try to reach
some satisfactory arrangement . As chairman of the committee , the Mayor appoint-
ed Councilman Christensen , with Councilmen Fletcher and McNulty to act with him.
According to report , it seemed likely that the owner of the property near the corner
of Woodside Road and Union Avenue , where the eucalyptus trees seemed to be some-
what of a hazard , intended to have the trees topped or taken down altogether .
So , further action was Postponed until the meeting of April 4 .
The question of any decision concerning the harbor festival was laid over for six
weeks .
Councilman Fletcher suggested that it might be a good idea to paint a pedestrain
lane across the Highway at Jefferson Avenue , and the City Manager said he would
take care of it .
Councilman Eva spoke of traffic hazards at the corner of Brewster and Elwood and also
at Hudson and Whipple , and the City Manager was asked to investigate .
