It seemed expedient <br /> from the discussion , to include also signs on Elwood Street , and it was decided , <br /> therefore , to have signs on all four corners of this intersection , on motion of <br /> Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Eva. <br /> In a letter to the Council , El Camino Real Association asked the members of the Council <br /> and certain city officials to participate in a group to consider the widening of <br /> El Camino Real from Redwood City to Palo Alto . The Clerk was asked to acknowledge <br /> the letter and to assure Mr . Lawrence , the secretary , that the officials and <br /> citizens of Redwood City would do all they could to cooperate in the plan outlined <br /> by him . <br /> In a letter to the Council , the City Planning Commission recommended to the Council that <br /> it grant the request of Mr. Perry Bygdnes for a building permit for a service <br /> station at the easterly side of El Camino Real between Wellesley and Claremont , and <br /> permission was granted on motion of Councilman Eva , seconded by Councilman Fletcher . <br /> In another letter to the Council the Planning Commission recommended the granting of a <br /> request for building permit by Mr. Schroder and also agreed to the division of Lots <br /> 3 , 4 , and 5 in Block 1 , Oak Knoll Manor , as follows : Lot 3 divided into 2 lots , <br /> and Lots 4 and 5 divided into 3 lots . It was so ordered and approved on motion of <br /> Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Christensen . <br /> Reverend William J . Owen , representing the Redwood City Ministerial Union , asked the co- <br /> operation of the Council in connection with the Sunrise Easter Services . Mayor <br /> McCarthy commented on the request , indicating the desirability of the services and <br /> suggesting that it should be made as completely a community project as possible . <br /> To that end , he suggested that a citizens ' committee be appointed . He appointed <br /> such a committee with Charles G . Lambert as chairman . On motion of Councilman Eva , <br /> seconded by Councilman Jones , the Council indicated its willingness to cooperate <br /> fully with the Ministerial Union and approved the committee suggested by the Mayor . <br /> In connection with the Easter Services , on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by <br /> Councilman Christensen , the Clerk was instructed to ask the Retail Dealers Section <br /> of the Chamber of Commerce to close all stores on Easter Sunday at least between <br /> the hours of 10 : 00 A. M . and 1 : 00 P . M. <br /> Councilman Eva , seconded by Councilman McNulty , proposed the introduction of ordinance <br /> granting to the Pacific Gas and Electric Company a franchise for the use and <br /> distribution of gas within Redwood City . Carried . <br /> Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Eva , proposed the introduction of ordinance <br /> granting to the Pacific Gas and Electric Company a franchise for the use and <br /> distribution of electricity within the city . Carried. <br />
