376
Action on termite control and title to cemetery were laid over for four weeks . The
City attorney also reported that he might be able at the next meeting to have
something definite concerning the library property title .
Mr . E . M. McGlade , representing the West Coast Advertising Company , explained that
the question of granting him space had been under consideration by the Planning
Commission, but no decision had been reached , and because he had a project which
had to be entered into by April 1 , he requested the Council to grant him a
temporary permit at three locations . As no member of the Council seemed in-
clined to grant the request , no action was taken .
It mas moved by Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Christensen , that the
alley in the Perry Subdivision be designated as Commercial Street , and it was so
ordered with the understanding that formal ordinance would be introduced at the
next meeting.
Al Morton explained to the Council the proposal that had been made for the purchase
of a public address system and projector , indicating the desirability of having
such equipment , but also questioning whether or not the particular projector was
one which the city ought to buy . It was finally decided to leave the whole
matter in the hands of the City Manager and Mr . Morton to work it out for the
best interests of the city .
The City Manager proposed that the salary being paid to Mr . M. Counihan who works at
the garbage dump be changed to $30 a month , effective April 1 . It was so ordered
on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Eva,
E . T . Tiernan of 1216 Roosevelt Avenue asked the Council to grant him a substantial
adjustment in a water bill which , through an excessive leak , had accumulated to
over $60 . It was explained that the City Manager had already suggested the
customary adjustment in such cases by cutting the bill in two and offering to
settle for $30 . On motion of Councilman Eva , seconded by Councilman Fletcher ,
it was suggested that a compromise figure of $25 be agreed upon , but the motion
was lost .
After further discussion , on motion of Councilman Hohn , seconded by Councilman
Fletcher , it was decided to reconsider this water bill adjustment , which motion
carried with Councilman Jones and McNulty voting "No" .
Following this , Councilman Bohn , seconded by Councilman Eva, proposed a compromise
figure of $20 in settlement of this water bill , which motion carried with Council-
man Jones and McNulty voting "No " .
The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by
Councilman Fletcher.
Adjournment .
(n.
