387 <br /> 1 <br /> After filing Affidavit of Publication , Ordinance Yo . 410 , naming " Commercial Way" , was <br /> unanimously adopted on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty . <br /> There was submitted a petition signed by B . B . Martin and 9 other interested property <br /> owners requesting that the Council proceed in its condemnation proceedings against 1 <br /> the building This at 2 35 Hx llvi ew Avenue . This property had already had attention on <br /> request of the Building Inspector that it be razed , and the property owner had been <br /> written . It was decided to lay the Hatter over until the next meeting and request <br /> Geo . Paul to see the owner when Mr. Paul was next in San Francisco . <br /> Niles C . Cunningham , representing the owner of Lots 10 , 12 , and 14+ in Block 35 , Redwood <br /> Highlands , requested the Council to waive the penalty on delinquent taxes . It was <br /> decided that this would be inconsistent with Previous action in refusing other <br /> property owners similar requests , and Mr . Cunningham was told that no reduction <br /> could be made . <br /> Mr . C . G . Uhlenberg , special city auditor , filed a letter with the Council in which he <br /> indicated that according to his opinion it was unnecessary for the city to continue <br /> in its suspense account the money impounded because of tax payments made by the <br /> Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company under protest . He indicated also that were <br /> a refund granted , it could be spread over ten years in the future and the proportion <br /> levied each year against entire ,assessed valaation_ . The City Attorney did not agree <br /> with this , and the matter was left in his hands to make a final decision by the next <br /> meeting . <br /> Mr . Uhlenberg also filed another letter concerning the probability of charging the Pacific <br /> Telephone and Telegraph Company a franchise tax . No action was taken , but the attached <br /> excerpts from the law of special franchises were referred to the City Attorney . <br /> In connection with the possibility of getting P . W. A . funds , the Clerk read the following <br /> telegram from John J . McGrath , Congressman: <br /> " INTERVIEWED PWA HEADS YESTERDAY AND THEY STATE THAT NO ACTIOIT ON <br /> OLD OR NEW REQUESTS WILL BE TAKEN UNTIL PENDING LEGISLATION IS <br /> COMPLETED STOP BELIEVE YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR PROJECTS WELL ORGAN- <br /> IZED FOR PRESENTATION AS REQUESTS WILL COME IN LIKE TIDAL WAVE " <br /> Sam Gold , Woodside Road and Orchard Street , asked permit to enlarge his present building <br /> on Lot 2.2 of the Lee Tract , but before anything could be done he was asked to have <br /> made and submit to the Council a sketch showing the present structure and the con- <br /> templated addition . <br /> Mr . Smith of Friendly Acres again appeared before the Council to urge as prompt action <br /> as possible in taking the necessary stems to annex that district to Redwood City. <br /> In the same connection a 3 page report by the City Manager concerning; this project <br /> was read to the Council in which was outlined not only statistics concerning that <br /> particular community , but also the advantages and disadvantages incident to this <br /> annexation.
