9? <br /> MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> OCTOBER 15 , 1934 <br /> 5 ; 00 P . I . <br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor , C . G. La3bert , L . C . Christensen , <br /> J . M. Eva , E . A. Fletcher , R. N. Jones , P . A. McCarthy , Geo . W . McNulty , City Clerk, B . E . <br /> Myers . Absent : None . <br /> The minutes of the meeting of October 1 , 1934 were approved on motion of Councilman Eva , seconded <br /> by Councilman Christensen. <br /> Another circular was read from the 1915 Improvement Bond Act Committee outlining the present status <br /> of the Lakeport litigation and asking for the proposed contribution from this city . The com- <br /> munication was ordered filed and the Treasurer instructed to issue the warrant . <br /> Floyd Granger asked permission to display a banner on the property along El Camino Real where Hopkins <br /> Avenue terminates . Permission was granted on motion of Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman <br /> Fletcher . <br /> S . R. Damns presented a petition signed by about thirty interested persons protesting any change in <br /> California Square whereby there would be introduced tennis courts , wading pool or a bowling <br /> green . Ir . Daines was present and was assured that the Council had no intention of breaking <br /> up the present park for those purposes . Protest ordered filed . <br /> E. A. Thorsen of San Carlos again appeared before the Council concerning a permit to erect a steel <br /> public dining car cafe on Lot iS of the Perry Subdivision at 729 El Camino Real . Permission <br /> was granted on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , revocable at any <br /> time , provided that the plunbing and wiring were done according to city regulations . <br /> The City Attorney reported concerning the proposed purchase of 4. 8 acres more or less on Roosevelt <br /> Avenue known as the Gillespie Tract and more fully described as follows : <br /> "All of Lot g of Wooster , Whitton and Montgomery Subdivision excepting those <br /> portions heretofore conveyed by deed of Carrie E. Gillespie to City and County of <br /> San Francisco . " <br /> He stated the property could be had for a down payment of $500 to take care of taxes and other <br /> delinquent payments and the asstu ption of a $2 , 000 Deed of Trust held by the First National <br /> Bann. Councilman Fletcher proposed that the city btiyy this property according to the plan out- <br /> lined , borrowing the initial payment of $500 from the Water Fund. Motion was seconded by <br /> Councilman Christensen and carried . <br /> Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva , moved that the city show its appreciation to the <br /> students of the High School who took the recent traffic count by having the Clerk write them <br /> a letter to that affect . Carried. <br /> On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Eva, the Council went on record as en- <br /> dorsing Proposition No . 1 — Election November 6 , 1934: <br /> "Veterans ' Welfare Bond Act of 1933 providing for a bond issue of thirty <br /> million dollars to be used by the Veterans ' Welfare Board in assisting California <br /> War Veterans to acquire farms or homes . " <br /> On motion of Councilman McCarty , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , the Council went on record as <br /> endorsing Proposition No . 23 — Election November 6 , 1934: <br />
