1. 0 <br /> MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> FEBRUARY 20 , 1933 <br /> . 00 P . M. <br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor W . J . Dusel , H. A. Beeger , C . J. <br /> Hildebrant , R. N . Jones , C . G. Lambert , Paul A. McCarthy , Geo . W. McNulty , City Clerk, <br /> B . E . Myers . Absent : None . <br /> Minutes of February 6 were approved by Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman Hildebrant . <br /> David Cosgrave , Attorney , appeared before the Board in behalf of Mrs . Silva who is the owner <br /> of the property for which a permit to run a pool room had been denied at the previous <br /> meeting. He explained that the property was first used as a pool room, that the complete <br /> equipment was there and that the building was suitable for nothing else . A letter was read <br /> from A. M. Rosenstirn recommending Chris De La Cruz who was the person really financially <br /> interested in the lease . Upon motion of Councilman Lambert , seconded by Councilman McI'Tulty , <br /> previous action denying the permit was rescinded , and permit was given revocable at any time <br /> to Chris De La Cruz to operate a pool hall at 2244 State Highway . <br /> C . S . Grandi appeared before the Council to ask that he be given a permit to erect an oil station <br /> at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Middlefield Road requesting it in the name of Annabelle <br /> C . Grandi . On motion of Councilman Lambert , seconded by Councilman Hildebrant , the permit was <br /> granted. <br /> Earl Dennis and Paul Reimer , representing the Knights of Pythias , asked permission to hold a dance <br /> and to permit men to solicit the sale of tickets for charity purposes . After going into the <br /> matter in detail , it was decided to postpone any action until the Chamber of Commerce had an <br /> opportunity to pass upon it , with the idea that if approval were given that the Council would <br /> naturally follow suit . <br /> A petition was read by the Clerk signed by Frank Thompson and several other barbers of Redwood <br /> City asking that the license tax on the wholesale barber trucks be reduced . The matter was <br /> referred to the Manager and Attorney to report back at the next meeting. <br /> C . E. Conroy of the San Francisco Examiner asked that permission be given to have news boys sell <br /> the Examiner in the residential sections of Redwood City between the hours of 6 : 45 and 9 : 00 P .M . <br /> Upon voting , on motion of Councilman Lambert , seconded by Councilman Hildebrant , his request <br /> was denied by the vote of 4 to 2 . <br /> Chas . D . Wilson of Atherton , California , made application for a license as master plumber . On <br /> motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Jones , the application was granted sub- <br /> ject to the bond being approved by the City Attorney , <br /> The Clerk read correspondence between Fred Downs of 662 Broadway and the City Manager concerning <br /> the hiring of two police officers by the Belmont Dog Racing Association to guard its funds <br /> while in transit . After explanation by the City Manager and Chief of Police , on motion of <br /> Councilman Beeger , seconded by Councilman McNulty , the correspondence was ordered received and <br /> filed , with the understanding that the action taken by the City Manager was approved by the <br /> Council . <br /> A communication from the City of Coronado relative to desired legislation pertaining to yacht <br /> harbors was referred to the City Manager . <br />
