Figure 2: Proposed Historic Landmark Designations <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />As summarized in Addendum A of the Main Street Historic District Expansion document <br />and detailed in the DPR 523 Forms attached to this report as Attachment 3, all three <br />structures qualify for landmark designation under Criterion A of the City’s Historic <br />Preservation Ordinance as they exemplify the early automotive industry history in <br />Redwood City. The building at 847-849 Main Street was designed for a Chevrolet <br />dealership in 1922; 935 Main Street is the first structure in the city to be designed as a <br />new car showroom and repair garage in 1920; and, the building at 1101 Main Street <br />was constructed in 1931 to house a Dodge dealership. In addition, all three also qualify <br />for landmark designation under Criterion C as they are good examples of less-imposing, <br />one-part commercial block buildings with storefronts along Main Street, and more <br />utilitarian rear facades with less architectural fenestration due to the necessities of <br />automotive sales and repair shops. <br /> <br />7.B. - Page 6
