CAREY & CO. INc.
ARCHITECTURE
San Mateo County Courthouse South Annex Pre-Demolition Recordation
Redwood City, California
July 20, 2004
PHASE ONE
PROPOSED SCOPE OF SERVICES
At the request of the City of Redwood City, Carey & Co. proposes the following Scope of Services to
prepare photographic and documentary recordation of the San Mateo County Courthouse South Annex
prior to demolition. The appropriate level of recordation of this building is described in recommended
mitigation measure # 1, found on page 14 of San Mateo County Courthouse South Annex Historic Building
Survey (April 2002), The recordation consists of three tasks: (1) a full set of archival black and white
photographs; (2) copies of original and existing conditions drawings reproduced on archivally-stable
mylar; and (3) copies of the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) nomination and the San
Mateo County Courthouse South Annex Historic Building Survey (April 2002) document on archival bond
paper.
This Proposed Scope of Services addresses the need for recordation as Phase One of two phases. The
first phase will photo-document the building. This can be accomplished as a distinct activity separate
from the second phase. Phase Two will consist of reproducing the building drawings and preparing the
archival copies of the written documentation. A separate scope of services will be prepared for Phase
Two.
Phase One - Scope of Services
1. Photographs. Prepare a full set of archival black and white photographs. Carey & Co. will apply the
following standards:
A. The camera will be 35mm format with a perspective correction lens.
B. Film will be fine grain black and white.
C. Prints will be a minimum size of 5" x 7" on fibre paper.
D. Processing of negatives and prints will meet HABS Photographic Standards for archival
processing.
E. The number
and type of photographs will be determined by an Architectural Historian. No more than 25
photographs will be taken.
F. Each photograph will be numbered in pencil on the back. They will be accompanied by a key (a
plan of the building indicating the location and direction of the photographs) and an index (a
spreadsheet with a description of each view).
2. Carey & Co. will provide the City of Redwood City with a draft of the photographic documentation
- _. - -. ..-. T" "-
