Council members discussed laws regarding 30 day notice and how they apply <br />to motels, long term tenancy and transient occupancy tax. <br />Sam Bhas, 360 Upland Road, Redwood City, owner of A -1 Motel stated rent <br />is not month by month, but weekly and daily. In response to question <br />from Councilmember Greenalch, he stated they have received referrals from <br />the Department of Social Services for three years. <br />Iftekhar Hui, 126 Appian Way, South San Francisco, owner of A -1 Motel, <br />stated the motel was never intended for permanent or semi - permanent <br />residence. Request by County to house more and more people resulted in <br />lost business and money. Exhibit A -1 submitted. <br />Don Bryant, Legal Aid representing tenants at A -1 Motel referred to <br />violations of motel and the fact that $300.00 does not make it possible <br />for tenants to move in two weeks. <br />Shanna Wilbur, 1818 E1 Camino Real, described the health and safety <br />problems at motel. <br />Councilmember Stangel suggested that the Housing and Human Concerns <br />Committee discuss this issue and bring back to Council. <br />In response to questions City Attorney Schricker advised the proposed <br />ordinance would include the amount for relocation as $1,500 on Line 8 of <br />Page 6. <br />MEMO 7/17/90 <br />b.
