2. PUBLIC HEARING - Appeal of the decision of the Zoning Administrator which <br />denied the conversion of an existing dwelling into a commercial office - <br />Jack Myhill, Syufy Enterprises, appellant. (203 -10) <br />Location: 555 East Bayshore Road; being approximately 15 acres; Parcel Map <br />Vol. 52/94 -95; APN 052 - 520 -(160, 330); "CG" (General Commercial) district. <br />Affidavit of publication on file. <br />Report: Planning Director, 8/6/90 <br />Planning Director Patterson presented the staff report and in response to <br />Council questions advised that the residence was not included in the <br />original site plans; the drawings submitted were inadequate even though the <br />architects were well advised of Redwood City requirements; the residence is <br />in bad shape and even if improved would be out of place in this commercial <br />area; and the area where it is located is to be reserved for a minimum of <br />two years for use as parking if determined to be necessary by the City <br />(Minute Order No. 88 -39 dated March 15, 1988). <br />Mayor La Berge declared the Public Hearing open at 7:52 p.m. and invited <br />anyone who wished to speak to please do so. <br />Jack Myhill, General Manager Syufy Theaters, 150 Golden Gate Avenue, San <br />Francisco, agreed that the building was not on original site plan, and <br />described efforts to utilize building: moving it to another location and <br />selling it was not an economically sound venture; tearing it down was <br />destroying a usable building; using it as a residence would not be permitted <br />by Zoning Administrator; converting it to commercial use seemed the best <br />choice as it would be a picturesque and unobtrusive building with 6 to 8 <br />parking places which could be used at night for theater - goers. <br />Vince Rainey, Architect for Syufy Theatres, 166 Grant Street, San Francisco, <br />advised Council he believed the drawings he submitted were adequate. <br />M /S: Claire /Greenalch to close the Public Hearing. <br />Carried by unanimous voice vote and Hearing closed at 8:20 p.m. <br />Planning Director Patterson advised denying the appeal would end the current <br />request for an architectural permit and appellants could apply again <br />if they so desired, but the building was currently in violation of the Use <br />Permit. <br />Council discussed the need for additional theater parking right now, and the <br />original decision to hold that area available for just such a circumstance. <br />M /S: Claire /Buchan to deny the appeal of the decision of the Zoning <br />Administrator which denied the conversion of an existing dwelling into a <br />commercial office at 555 East Bayshore Road, Redwood City <br />In response to Council questions, Assistant City Attorney Prestidge advised <br />removal of the building could not be decided tonight. <br />Reg.
