Mayor La Berge and Vice Mayor Bury presented the Awards of Recognition to <br />the members of the Champion softball team who thanked the Council for their <br />support. <br />16. Proclaiming November 14, 1990 as National Young Reader's Day (301 -04) <br />Mayor La Berge presented the proclamation to City Clerk Jorgenson who <br />accepted it behalf of Project Read and the Redwood City Library. <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br />a. Hope House (102 -03) <br />The following people addressed the Council with their concerns regarding <br />state licensing of Hope House, a voluntary locked facility for women leaving <br />prison to enroll in a substance abuse program, to be located in the Friendly <br />Acres neighborhood at 3789 Hoover Street, Redwood City; expressed concerns <br />regarding detrimental effects of this type of house in that location, and <br />advised they support the concept but are adamant that the Hoover Street <br />house is definitely the wrong location; and asked Council to write a letter <br />to the State Alcohol and Drug Programs to postpone licensing: <br />Bonnie Miller, 1224 -5th Avenue, Redwood City <br />Julie Cortez, 3773 Hoover, Redwood City <br />Ed Bailey, 3215 Page Street, Redwood City <br />Cynthia Escoto, 1034 -17th Avenue, Redwood City <br />Sandra Lewandowski, 3285 Hoover Street, Redwood City <br />Gail Dennis, 1156 -18th Avenue, Redwood City <br />Marguerite Trixler, 3346 Page Street, Redwood City <br />A Public Safety Officer who lives in the area and wished to remain anonymous <br />Deborah Crosby, 3443 Hoover Street, Redwood City <br />The following people spoke in favor of Hope House: <br />Cheryl Monroe, 944 Rose Avenue, Redwood City <br />Zakkiyyah Nazeeh, Service League, 878 Main Street, Redwood City <br />Elizabeth Goleta, Service League, 878 Main Street, Redwood City <br />Council Members expressed dismay that the Service League did not contact the <br />City with their proposal for Hope House before selecting a site; discussed <br />impacts of locating this rehabilitation center at the Hoover Street address; <br />discussed the need for Redwood City to do its share in providing care <br />centers for those in need; and discussed options and remedies. <br />M /S: Greenalch /Claire to direct staff to prepare a report on the nature and <br />number of care facilities in Redwood City; research rules and regulations of <br />the State licensing requirements as background for letter requesting <br />postponement of licensing; and present the reports to the Council at the <br />November 19th regular Council Meeting. <br />Carried by unanimous voice vote. <br />MINUTE ORDER NO. 90 -162 <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 50 Reg.
