6.1.E. - Page l <br /> REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br /> October 17, 2016 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Agreement for Service between the Redwood City School <br /> District and the City of Redwood City for the PE Plus Program <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the Fiscal Year 2016-17 <br /> Agreement between the Redwood City School District and the City of Redwood City to <br /> provide comprehensive physical education curriculum for children in kindergarten <br /> through fifth grade at five Redwood City School District schools <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The Sequoia Healthcare District (SHCD) and Redwood City Parks, Recreation, <br /> and Community Services (PRCS) both recognize the critical need that exists for <br /> consistent physical education and physical activity opportunities for students during the <br /> school day. Both parties have a common objective to assure that children in the <br /> Redwood City School District (RCSD) have access to such opportunities. With grant <br /> funds provided by SHOD, both PROS and the Peninsula Community Center (PCC) <br /> have agreed to provide a comprehensive, sequential K-5 PE curriculum called "PE <br /> Plus" that serves nearly 5,000 children in kindergarten through fifth grade in the <br /> Redwood City School District. <br /> In addition to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SHOD and the <br /> City of Redwood City for grant funding for the PE Plus Program, the RCSD also <br /> contributes funding to support our staffing costs. The Agreement aligns with the SHOD <br /> MOU and describes the City's obligations to RCSD in connection with City's receipt <br /> of $104,614 to provide physical education curriculum. The following are the Year 5 goal <br /> and objectives: <br /> Goal I: To establish active, healthy lifestyles, and contribute to the social-emotional <br /> development of youth in the Redwood City School District. <br /> Objective I — Program Delivery: City will conduct programming at the five schools <br /> listed below during the 2016-17 academic year. If opportunity presents itself to <br /> expand to other schools during this grants cycle, an amendment to this agreement <br /> will be made. <br /> The Program is based on the following parameters: <br />
