8.1.E. - Page 10 <br /> 1.5. Utility Clearance <br /> The Contractor is responsible for performing a dig notification (e.g. USA North 811 <br /> http://usanorth811.org/) prior to commencing any trench or excavation work. <br /> Contractor is charged with knowledge of all subsurface conditions reflected in USA <br /> records. <br /> The cost of all of the following will be included in the Contract Sum and Contractor <br /> shall have full responsibility for (a) reviewing and checking all available information <br /> and data including, but not limited to, information made available for bidding and <br /> information on file at USA; (b) locating all Underground Facilities using available <br /> information, indicated by visual observation, engaging qualified locating services and <br /> all necessary backhoeing and potholing; (c) coordination of project activities with the <br /> owners of such Underground Facilities during construction; and (d) the safety and <br /> protection of all such Underground Facilities and repairing any damage thereto <br /> resulting from Contractor's activities. <br /> 1.6. Public Notification <br /> Contractor will hand deliver notices to residents prior to starting any construction <br /> activities. Contractor will notify all residents in the surrounding project area at least <br /> 24 hours before any special extended noisy and dusty period of construction. <br /> 1.7. Water and Dust Control <br /> All water used in conjunction with the project shall be metered and paid for by the <br /> Contractor. Contractor will need to pay a construction meter deposit at the Revenue <br /> Services Counter at City Hall (1017 Middlefield Rd) prior to checking out a <br /> construction meter at the Public Works Services Department(1400 Broadway St). <br /> Contractor shall take appropriate steps, such as watering, to prevent airborne dust due <br /> to work under this contract. Contractor shall remove and dispose daily at his cost, <br /> off-site of dirt, debris,waste and rubbish from the work area and construction site. <br /> 1.8. Utility Shutdown <br /> No utility shall be disconnected without prior written approval of City staff. In the <br /> event operations of this project require that there be a temporary utility shutdown, the <br /> Contractor shall submit to the City, in writing, notice of this requirement at least <br /> forty-eight hours in advance of operation. <br /> 1.9. General Traffic Control <br /> Contractor shall adhere to the traffic regulations of the City's Engineering Standards. <br /> At a minimum, Contractor shall provide one 10-foot minimum width traffic lane for <br /> vehicular traffic in each direction of travel during construction. <br /> 1.10. Staging Area and Use of City Streets <br /> Material storage shall be limited at the construction site to what is needed for two <br /> days construction.
