8.3.B. - Page 78 <br /> Any employee promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant who, within the previous twelve <br /> (12) months, served in the capacity of an Acting Police Sergeant for at least six (6) <br /> months will be subject to a probationary period of six(6)months of service from the date <br /> of appointment instead of twelve(12). <br /> Any employee promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant who, within the previous <br /> twelve(12) months, served in the capacity of an Acting Police Lieutenant for at least six <br /> (6) months, will be subject to a probationary period of six(6) months of service from the <br /> date of appointment instead of twelve (12). <br /> Upon satisfactory completion of such probationary period, the employee shall be <br /> appointed to a regular full-time position in that classification. <br /> 11.2 Employees appointed to specialty positions are appointed for a fixed period of time, (i.e. <br /> 3 years). However, employees may be removed from those positions prior to the <br /> expiration of that time period for poor performance, in accordance with the following <br /> method: <br /> An employee who fails to meet or exceed all standards on his/her annual or semi- <br /> annual performance evaluation shall be put on notice that they will be removed <br /> from the specialty position if his/her performance is not deemed to meet or exceed <br /> all standards, and shall be placed on a Performance Improvement Plan for a <br /> minimum of ninety (90) calendar days. The Performance Improvement Plan shall <br /> conclude with a special evaluation. If the special evaluation shows the employee <br /> has failed to meet or exceed all standards, the employee can be removed from the <br /> specialty position. The employee shall not have the right to appeal the removal, and <br /> he/she will no longer receive any specialty pay associated with the position from <br /> which he/she is removed. <br /> SECTION 12. RESIGNATION <br /> An employee wishing to leave the service of the City in good standing shall file with the Police <br /> Chief at least two (2) weeks notice of an intention to leave the service unless the Police Chief <br /> consents to the employee's leaving sooner. The written resignation shall state the effective date <br /> and reasons for leaving. The resignation shall be forwarded to the Personnel Officer, with a <br /> statement by the Police Chief as to the resigned employee's service performance and other <br /> pertinent information concerning the cause for resignation. <br /> SECTION 13. LAYOFF <br /> 13.1 Reassignment of Effected Employee <br /> 13.1.1 A sworn Police Sergeant, who has received a notice of layoff, may elect, in lieu <br /> of layoff,to be reassigned to the rank of Police Officer, provided that in order to <br /> displace the Police Officer the Police Sergeant was promoted from the rank of <br /> Police Officer directly from the Redwood City POA.
