8.1.C. - Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
October 24, 2016
SUBJECT
Purchase of Four Ford F-350 Trucks
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve the purchase of four 2017 Ford F-350 Trucks in the amount of
$212,149.50 from Towne Ford of Redwood City, California
BACKGROUND
Redwood City's Fleet Replacement Program is designed to provide a structure for
evaluating vehicles and equipment in order to replace them at the most economically
advantageous point in their life cycle. At pre-described intervals, vehicles and
equipment undergo a thorough evaluation including but not limited to, age, mileage,
condition, maintenance history, downtime, anticipated future repairs, usage and vehicle
capabilities.
ANALYSIS
The Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department (PRCS)
and the Public Works Services Department (PWS) have four vehicles (three and one
respectively), that are scheduled to be replaced in the current fiscal year (FY). The
Public Works Fleet Section met with representatives from both PRCS and PWS and
have agreed that all four vehicles should be replaced with 2017 Ford F-350 Trucks, as
they will meet the rigorous demands of both departments.
On September 2, 2016 a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids was published in The Daily News
with a submission deadline on September 22, 2016. Copies of the bid notice were
emailed to three local dealerships with additional copies available at the Public Works
office located at 1400 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063. The received bids were
opened by the City Clerk on September 22, 2016, and are summarized in the following
table.
