This is probably the largest entrance and exit from a neighborhood on
Farm Hill/Jefferson that does not have a stop sign or light. During most of the day, it is only a
short wait to turn left from Highland toward downtown. But at rush hour it can seem like
forever. The stop light at Alameda de las Pulgas serves somewhat as a meter for westbound
traffic, but when combined with eastbound traffic on Jefferson, especially in the morning, it is
very difficult to turn left from the neighborhood.
A signal could be programmed to turn on only when it senses a car wanting to turn left onto
Jefferson.
If a signal is too expensive or infeasible, then perhaps a better halfway lane could be added
when you re-stripe that area. You recently added a waiting lane, where you can make the left
turn in two stages, but it is confusing, seems dangerous, and is seldom used.
Thanks for your consideration.
Rick Hunter
8.A. - Page 56
