From:CD-Jessica Manzi
To:CD-Stacy Nicol
Subject:FW: Please change back Farm Hill Rd
Date:Monday, October 10, 2016 9:56:05 AM
Jessica Manzi, PE
Community Development Department
Phone: (650)780-7372
From: Wilson Lew]
Sent: Wednesday, October 05, 2016 5:03 PM
To: GRP-Farm Hill Feedback <farmhillfeedback@redwoodcity.org>
Subject: Please change back Farm Hill Rd
Hello ---
I am unable to attend the meeting today 10/5/16, but I hope my thoughts in this e-mail on the
Farm Hill Blvd pilot program will be read.
Please allow me to tell my thoughts through what I observe on a daily basis. I live off of
Cambridge Road. Each weekday morning around 8am, I drive my son to Adelante school. So
this entails making a left turn from Cambridge Road on to Farm Hill Blvd. Before the pilot
program, making the left turn wasn’t the easiest thing to do. However, with the pilot program
it is more difficult since traffic going up Farm Hill Blvd has 2 lanes merging into 1 and traffic
downhill has 1 lane splitting into 2 at that location. The cars going uphill can sometimes be
going fast as one car is trying to get ahead of another slower car before the lanes merge into
1.As to the cars going downhill, cars are anxiously looking to where the lane splits into 2 so
that they can either 1) pass a car moving too slowly down the hill or 2) get into the left lane to
turn on to Emerald Hills Rd. In addition, there are also cars turning right from Emerald Hills
Rd. on to Farm Hill Blvd as well. So it’s trickier than before making the left turn from
Cambridge Rd on to Farm Hill Blvd.
After making the turn on to Farm Hill Blvd., I notice driving down Farm Hill Blvd. that traffic is
backed up on the other side of the road going up Farm Hill Blvd. As I make a right turn on to
McGarvey Ave, I notice here too that cars are backed up passed Fernside Rd and there are
cars along Fernside Rd trying to make a left turn on to McGarvey Ave. I would not envy
anyone who has to drive up Jefferson Ave to Farm Hill Blvd to get to 280 or Canada College or
Roy Cloud School. I imagine after the pilot program went into effect, this commute time went
up quite a bit. Perhaps whoever is in charge of making the decision on the lane changes can
8.A. - Page 75
