try driving up Farm Hill Blvd during and after peak commute times to see the effect on traffic.
After taking my son to Adelante, I back track the way I came so that I can go up Farm Hill Blvd.
and get on to 280. Fortunately now the morning crunch traffic has lessened at this time
~8:25am. However, even at this time after turning from McGarvey Ave, many times traffic is
still a little backed-up on Farm Hill Blvd. It is not as bad as earlier in the morning, but it
certainly takes longer to get through this traffic than before the pilot program.
I don’t know how the safety numbers before and after the pilot program compares. I have
heard stories of people thinking it is a little safer to cross the intersection at Emerald Hills Rd
and Farm Hill Blvd since people have been stopping at that intersection better. However, if
safety is a concern particularly at that intersection, rather than make the lanes as they are in
the pilot program, why not go back to the old lane layout and put a stop light there as every
other intersection around that area has a stop light on Farm Hill Blvd? This way people can
more easily cross the street. I’m not sure how that would affect me turning left from
Cambridge Rd on to Farm Hill Blvd, however it is a thought for safety.
In the end, I prefer the lanes to go back to the way they were. I’m sure many people who live
along Farm Hill Rd prefer the way the lanes are with the pilot program though. However, as
more and more people move to Redwood City, the traffic will become worse which is why I
think it is better to switch the lanes back to the way they were.
Thank you for reading.
Take care,
Wilson
8.A. - Page 76
