I park in a driveway so that I have to enter traffic from the
driveway and enter the driveway from traffic. I commute up Farm Hill to 280 every single day of the week, usually
during regular commute hours. I am VERY HAPPY with the improvements in traffic safety and noise since the
reconfiguration. I am less fearful of entering and leaving traffic as drivers are on average moving more slowly and
cautiously. I used to see cars racing by at all times of day easily 15 MPH over the speed limit and heard them at
night while at home. I still hear this sometimes but far far less often. There is still terrible speeding going both
directions but I see it less. Previously I witness frequent examples of road rage and near accidents as persons living
along Farm Hill slowed to make turns into their driveways, particularly left turns. I have been honked at, yelled at,
and nearly rear ended many times as I signaled and slowed to turn into my driveway, but no longer, as I get to use
the central turn lane. I am also no longer fearful of drivers entering the roadway from McGarvey, as most drivers
ignore the crosswalk and pull directly into the lane of traffic when the light is red, creating a hazard for those
coming down hill on Farm Hill in the right hand lane. I have nearly been hit several times by this hazard while
driving with a young child in my car. One more thing, although the commute up the hill is a tad slower in the
morning, it’s only a minute or less longer, so quite a trivial change and fully worth it.
Thank you for making these improvements! It is much safer (although still many aggressive drivers speeding in
both directions).
Matthew Petitt
8.A. - Page 77
