I believe
there were more conclusions drawn than the amount and quality of the data can support,
the sampling times were too infrequent. My own observations are that the traffic
volume and wait times have increased especially during rush hour, but did not increase
so much that they negate the benefits of feeling more safe while walking along the
sidewalks.
As a cyclist, I've come to enjoy the bike lanes. Informally looking at Strava.com
segments from Farm Hill, there is a noticeable increase in bike usage. For example,
Farm Hill to Eden Bower, one of the hardest parts, has 2,191 attempts by 806 for the life
of the site (which spans several years), and there were 220 people using it this year. To
have more than 25% of the total people climbing it within the last year tells me that
either there are a relatively large set of die-hard cyclists, or more people feel
comfortable riding it.
Feedback
Today at 7:50 a.m. on the corner of Eden Bower Ln and Farm Hill, my daughters and
wife almost lost their father to a horrific car crash because a driver was descending at
speeds greater than 50 miles an hour and I had no time to see the car because of poor
visibility. The driver was luckily able to retain control while she swerved into the
8.A. - Page 82
