The previous street
design was dangerous and loud. It encouraged speeding, drag racing and reckless
driving while it suppressed biker riders of all ages.
The new street design is much safer and creates a better community. It also looks
better too. I've read through the study and findings and our personal observations
(living on the street everyday) echo those findings. It's safer and people are
driving slower.
Some other improvements we've noticed include:
fewer speeders and people traveling at slower speeds (much safer!)
safer + easier to turn left into our driveway (without the fear of being rear
ended or people swerving at the last minute)
safety that the added buffer zone creates between cars and us walking our
dogs and pushing our stroller
bike lanes provide the ability to actually leave our house on a bikes and
commute, which was not possible before.
bike lanes and buffer zones have increased the presents of people walking,
biking on engaging on the street. This makes everyone feel more safe and
builds a sense of community locally.
lower traffic noise levels
no more drag racing (typically occurred nightly on Farm Hill at the
Mcgarvey light)
easier (and safer) to cross the street at uncontrolled cross walks
8.A. - Page 96
