PUBLIC HEARINGS

PUBLIC HEARING - Appeal of Zoning Administrator's decision to deny a 12 foot
8 inch high by 6 foot 6 inch wide freestanding sign for a drive through
Video/Rental Business in the "CG" (General Commercial) District, - Mark
Harris and Haim Beressi, appellants (203-10)

LOCATION: 707 Woodside Road; being southeasterly portion of Lot 4; "Gray
Tract"; APN 059-101-420; "CG" (General Commercial) District.

Affidavit of publication of Notice of Hearing on file.

Report:

Planning Director, 2/25/91

Director Patterson presented the staff report describing the proposed sign as
the same as the California highway warning signs in color, design and height
of lettering. In response to Council questions, Mr. Patterson advised the
applicant did not submit any other design; and sign approval is based on,
among other things, compatibility with the building, color, height and
placement on the site.

Mayor La Berge declared the public hearing open at 7:57 p.m. and invited
anyone who wished to speak to please do so.

Mark Harries, 35 McCreary Drive, Hillsborough, appellant, directed Council's
attention to his written appeal, pointing out the proposed sign was designed
to look like the California highway signs to tie-into the drive-through
concept of his video kiosk, and CalTrans advised they have no objections to
its use. Mr. Harries advised this logo was a clear statement of the concept
and part of the marketing strategy that he hoped would lead to a small chain
of drive-through video stores; and that Woodside Road in Redwood City was
chosen for the City's support of local businesses and the large volume of
cars on Woodside Road.

Minute Book No. 50
Page No. 181

Reg.
