Director Patterson advised the reason offered for the request
was reduction of construction costs.

Mayor La Berge declared the public hearing open at 7:47 p.m. and invited
anyone who wished to speak to please do so.

William Schuppel, 550 Kearny Street, San Francisco, architect of the subject
building, acknowledged the original drawings had a brick facade, but stated
the completed building would actually be too somber, unappealing and it
needs more spark. Mr. Schuppel showed an artists rendering using some brick
on the corners of the building and landscaping, and added that masonry and
cement plaster are compatible and in the Spanish tradition.

Reg.
