As women graduate, they return to the community and are <br />supported in their successful recovery through an alumni group. $5,000 was requested to support the <br />operation of Hope House. <br /> <br />Sor Juana Ines Services for Abused Women <br />This agency meets the needs of Iow-income women and their children who are experiencing domestic <br />violence. Sor Juana Ines Services is one of the only resources of its kind for abused women and children <br />in Redwood City. The program provides a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, bilingual toll-free crisis line; individual <br />peer counseling for survivors of family violence; English and Spanish support groups including childcare; <br />help with temporary restraining order process; confidential emergency housing; assessments and <br />counseling for children who are victims or witnesses; and community awareness through speaking <br />engagements. $20,000 was requested to support the provision of these services to Redwood City <br />residents. <br /> <br />Teen Preqnancy Coalition of San Mateo County ("Teen Talk" and "Plain Talk") <br />Teen Pregnancy Coalition provides educational programs for youth in the community on pregnancy <br />prevention. The Coalition provides "Teen Talk" for youth and "Plain Talk" for parents. $10,000 was <br />requested to provide "Teen Talk" to Redwood City Middle School students and "Plain Talk" their parents at <br />five school sites. <br /> <br />YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula - Sequoia YMCA After School Childcare <br />The Sequoia YMCA has served the residents of Redwood City for more than 50 years with programs that <br />help children develop self-esteem and model the values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility. <br />One of the programs offered by the Sequoia YMCA is their After School Childcare Program. $25,000 was <br />requested to assist the YMCA in providing financial assistance to families needing after-school childcare. <br /> <br />Younq Latino Leaders <br />Young Latino Leaders promotes community service amongst youth; provides for incentives for youth to <br />excel in school; supports a leadership development training program; provides mentoring for high school <br />students; and promotes cultural and recreational activities for Latino youth in Sequoia Union High School <br />District. $15,000 was requested to support YLL overall programs in Redwood City. <br /> <br />Youth and Family Assistance-Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Center <br />Youth and Family Assistance provides a comprehensive network of eleven programs, which serves the <br />needs of youth and families in high-risk situations. Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Center <br />seeks to provide readily accessible help to people in their times of greatest need. For more than thirty <br />years the Crisis Center has been the only 24-hour suicide and crisis hotline in the San Mateo County. In <br />addition, the Youth Intervention Team provides San Mateo County schools and police with on call <br />counselors who are available daily to assess students' suicidal behaviors or other crisis situations. <br />$15,000 was requested to support the operation of the crisis hot#ne and outreach about these emergency <br />services. <br /> <br />Youth and Family Assistance-Your House South <br />Offers creative and comprehensive solutions to our community's most serious problems by providing <br />violence prevention and education, substance abuse counseling, runaway and homeless youth programs, <br />and youth and family support programs. Located in Redwood City, Your House South provides the only <br />crisis shelter for runaway and homeless youth in southern San Mateo County. In addition to crisis shelter <br />and services, Your House South provides a structured two-week residential program for youth and their <br />families in crisis situations. $20,000 was requested to support the general program of Your House South <br />with a particular emphasis on outreach in Redwood City. <br /> <br /> <br />
