I
IREPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council

From the City Mana~ler

May 6, 2002

Subject
Final Acceptance - Redwood Shores Bus Shelters Installation Project

Recommendation
Accept the Redwood Shores Bus Shelters Installation Project, and authorize the
release of bonds.

Background
On October 8, 2001, the City Council awarded the construction contract for the
Redwood Shores Bus Shelters Installation Project to Bellalany ConstrUction of
Martinez, California, for an amount of $39,346.

In 1999, residents representing the Redwood Shores Homeowners Association (RSHA)
approached the Redwood Shores General Improvement District (GID) 1-64 Committee
to express the need for bus shelters in the Redwood Shores Area. The GID 1-64
Committee approved the proposal to appropriate $45,000, from the GID Facility Fee
contributed by the Hotel Development at the end of Twin Dolphin Drive, to construct the
bus shelters.

In July 2000, the RSHA identified (according to priority) the top seven (7) locations for
future bus shelters. Followed by the selection of bus shelter locations, representatives
from the Redwood Shores Owners Association (RSOA) also participated and provided
input in the bus shelter structure selection process.

At its May 17, 2001 Home Owners Association meeting, the RSHA reconfirmed the
locations for four (4) new SamTrans bus shelters. Three (3) of these shelters (all along
Redwood Shores Parkway), were constructed under the supervision of the City. The
final shelter, on Bridge Parkway, will be constructed by SamTrans Administration.

The shelters are prefabricated structures, which are currently the same structures
used by SamTrans. The selection of these same type of structures will make
ongoing maintenance potentially easier, due to having available replacement parts
(such as glass panels) on hand. On September 7, 2001, representatives from the
Redwood Shores Homeowners Association and City of Redwood City Engineering staff
met with SamTrans Officials and a maintenance agreement was reached. Following
the meeting, SamTrans issued a "Letter of Understanding", which detailed the
