6.1.E. - Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
December 12, 2016
SUBJECT
Purchase of Two Freightliner Dump Trucks
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve the purchase of two 2017 Freightliner Dump Trucks in the amount
of $262,963.56 from Golden Gate Truck Center of Oakland, California
BACKGROUND
Redwood City's Fleet Replacement Program is designed to provide a process for
evaluating vehicles and equipment in order to replace them at the most economically
advantageous point in their life cycle. At pre -determined intervals, vehicles and
equipment undergo a thorough evaluation including but not limited to, age, mileage,
condition, maintenance history, downtime, anticipated future repairs, usage and vehicle
capabilities.
ANALYSIS
The Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department (PRCS)
and the Public Works Services Department (PWS) each have one dump truck
scheduled to be replaced in the current fiscal year (FY). The Public Works Fleet Section
met with representatives from both PRCS and PWS and have agreed that each of the
vehicles should be replaced with a 2017 Freightliner Dump Truck, as it will meet the
rigorous demands of both departments.
On September 23, 2016, a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids was published in The Daily News
with a submission deadline of October 19, 2016. Copies of the bid notice were emailed
to three dealerships with additional copies available at the Public Works office located at
1400 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063. The received bids were opened by the City
Clerk on October 19, 2016, and are summarized in the following table.
