6.1.B. - Page 1
REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
December 12, 2016
SUBJECT
Repair and Replacement of Two Storm Water Pumps
RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve the repair and replacement of two storm water pumps in the amount
of $173,597.87 by Pump Repair Service Company, Inc. and authorize the City Manager
to increase the amount up to 10% if necessary
BACKGROUND
Each year, the Public Works Services Department performs annual maintenance and
review of all storm water pump stations. Staff schedule follow-up repair and
rehabilitation based on this comprehensive review to ensure full operating capacity of all
pump stations during the winter rainy season. This year, staff identified pumps at
Bradford Pump Station and Price Tract Pump Station as needing immediate repair.
ANALYSIS
One pump at Bradford Pump Station and one pump at Price Tract Pump Station have
reached the end of their useful lives and are in need of repair. Both Bradford Pump
Station and Price Tract Pump Station remain operational, with two of three pumps in
service, but replacing the third pump is important to ensure operating capacity during
the winter season.
Staff published a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids in The Daily News on October 7, 2016.
Copies of the bid notice were emailed to three local pump specialty companies with
additional copies available at the Public Works office and on the City's website. Only
one bid was received by the due date of October 19, 2016 and City staff released a
notice inviting sealed bids for a second time. The second Notice Inviting Sealed Bids
was published in The Daily News on October 28, 2016. Two bids were submitted by the
due date of November 9, 2016, and are summarized below.
