6.1.D. - Page 2
ANALYSIS
The Magical Bridge Foundation team has done an incredible job making community,
foundation, and corporate connections. They have set up donation sites; made multiple
presentations; have organized fundraising events; have hosted "pay it forward Palo
Alto" events; are involving children, families, and staff from the Redwood City School
District; have received a commitment from Supervisor Warren Slocum's office of
$50,000; have received commitments from local companies; and are making great
strides in attaining the fundraising goal of $1.8M.
On October 5, 2016, Magical Bridge Foundation representatives and the Director of the
Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department made a presentation to the
Sequoia Healthcare District Board of Directors about this project. The Board approved
a grant to the City in the amount of $400,000 to be used explicitly towards the Magical
Bridge Playground.
ALTERNATIVES
Council could choose not to accept the grant.
FISCAL IMPACT
The City has committed $1.5M towards the estimated $3.3M playground construction
costs, while the Magical Bridge Foundation will raise $1.8M. The $400,000 grant from
the Sequoia Healthcare District would contribute toward the $1.8M fundraising goal.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The agreement is not a project under CEQA as defined in CEQA Guidelines, section
15378, because the agreement itself has no potential for resulting in either a direct or
reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment. The Magical
Bridge Playground Project itself will be reviewed separately for CEQA determination.
i
eg
CHRIS BETH
DIRECTOR
PARKS, RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES
