Presentation of Just Say No to Drugs "Red Ribbon Week" Proclamation, <br />observed October 19th through 27th <br /> <br />Councilwoman Buchan accepted the proclamation from Mayor La Berge and <br />described the activities planned for "Red Ribbon Week" in Redwood City, the <br />City's commitment to a drug free America, and urged everyone to wear red <br />ribbons to show their support for this campaign. <br /> <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />C. Presentation of "Fire Prevention Month" Proclamation, for October <br /> <br />Mayor La Berge presented the proclamation to Redwood City Fire Marshal Louis <br />Vella who thanked the Council and urged everyone to observe this year's <br />motto: "Fires don't wait - plan your escape." <br /> <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />D. Proclaiming National Domestic Violence Awareness "Blue Ribbon Week", <br />observed October 6th through October 13th <br /> <br />Mayor La Berge read the proclamation and urged everyone to observe "Blue <br />Ribbon Week." <br /> <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />E. Proclamation in honor of the Fortieth Anniversary of Messiah Lutheran Church <br />and celebrating Reverend James R. Anderson's twelfth year at Messiah <br />Lutheran Church <br /> <br />Mayor La Berge read the proclamation and advised it would be presented at a <br />special ceremony on October 13, 1991 at Messiah Lutheran Church. <br /> <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> <br />A. The following people spoke in support of "Save B.O.T.H.", the save the <br />burrowing owls and their habitat organization; urged Council to <br />eliminate or reduce disking weeds in vacant lots which destroys natural <br />habitats; and, asked Council to work with their organization to develop <br />policies that would protect natural habitats using the cities of Palo alto <br />and Santa Clara policies as models: <br /> <br />Keith Wood, 1846 Woodside Road, Redwood City <br />Roy Christman, Professor at San Jose State University <br />Janice Buchanan, Ben Lomund <br /> <br />Council Members discussed the lack of statistical data concerning <br />purported decrease in small animal populations in Redwood City; the <br />abundance of raccoons, deer and possums in the City; and their commitment <br />to preserving natural habitats and protecting Redwood City citizens <br />through an effective weed abatement program. <br /> <br />City Manager Smith advised staff would meet with "Save B.O.T.H." and <br />devise a policy that would be beneficial to all interests. <br /> <br />MEMO 10/8/91 <br /> <br />----------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />Regular Agenda Minutes <br />October 7, 1991 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 50 <br />Page No. 365 <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />I <br />
