<br />D. Councilwoman Buchan thanked everyone involved with the beginning events for <br />the "Say No to Drugs" campaign on October 19th, including the carnival and <br />the softball game (final score, Fire Department 16, Police Department 11). <br /> <br />E. Councilman Murray advised that after the Redwood City Council took a strong <br />stand in support of the Best Schools Proposal, he seconded the motion at the <br />CitY/County Association of Governments meeting, to endorse its passage in <br />the November election. Unfortunately, only Redwood City and Daly City spoke <br />in favor of this proposal, with one city speaking against, and nine taking <br />no position. Councilman Murray then moved to table the discussion and that <br />course of action was approved. Councilman Murray expressed his <br />discouragement at this example of narrow self interest. Mayor La Berge reminded the Council of the Affirmative Action policy adopted <br />by the Council establishing a committee with members from City staff, <br />employee associations and a City Council member. Councilwoman Buchan <br />volunteered to serve on the committee. (509-03) <br /> <br />MEMO 10/22/91 <br /> <br />G.
