Christina Sutherland, Executive Director of Shelter Network of San Mateo <br />County (101-03) <br /> <br />Mayor La Berge announced that Christina Sutherland was unable to attend the <br />Council Meeting and this item would be postponed until November 18, 1991. <br /> <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />Councilman Bury announced that at the end of the Meeting he would move to <br />adjourn in memory of former Port Director Howard Harris, and funeral service <br />will be held on Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m., in the Redwood Chapel, 847 Woodside <br />Road. Councilman Bury recalled Mr. Harris' distinguished service to Redwood <br />City. <br /> <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> <br />B. Dr. Jeffrey Filippi presented slides on the reconstruction of the old <br />Redwood City Archway Sign, "Cl imate Best by Government Test." (301-20) <br /> <br />Dr. Filippi, member of the Civic Cultural Commission, presented slides on <br />the old Redwood City Archway Sign, describing the history of the archway, <br />and its significance to the community, and asked Council for endorsement for <br />this project. Dr. Filippi advised that the $100,000 this project would cost <br />could be included in the Redevelopment Agency "Entry Features" budget and <br />suggested the sign be installed at 2600 Broadway, at El Camino Real. <br /> <br />In response to Council questions, City Manager Smith described the Entry <br />Feature Program, advised that Council had authorized an urban designer to <br />work on a comprehensive program for entry features, and the stated budget of <br />$500,000 is only a working figure. <br /> <br />MIS: Claire/Murray to endorse the restoration of the archway sign project <br />and direct staff to include it in their study of Entry Features at the <br />location suggested, Sequoia High School across from the entrance to Broadway <br /> <br />Council discussed the sense of identity the Archway sign bestows on the <br />City; the endorsement of a concept or endorsement of this restoration <br />project; endorsement of project, but no commitment of funds, nor endorsement <br />of contractor, nor materials; logical placement of archway sign; urban <br />designer to consider every proposal and make recommendations to Council; and <br />funding from other sources.
