He informed Council some 1200 letters had been <br />mailed to organizations and citizens in Redwood City and follow-ups on letters to <br />be made by 25 members of the Committee to make certain of response. He reported <br />response so far had been very good, little or no objection being made to proposed <br />site, and that only question asked had been concerning traffic plans should site be <br />chosen. <br />Councilman Keckley moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5064 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO TO TAKE STEPS TO CONSTRUCT IMPROVE- <br />MENTS TO THE ATHERTON CHANNEL AND ITS DRAINAGE BASIN. City of Menlo Park had re- <br />quested Redwood City's support in asking the County to improve the channel north- <br />easterly of Bayshore Freeway to the Bay, and to finance said improvements by forming <br />a flood control zone for the area, or by requesting the Atherton Channel Improvement <br />District to extend its jurisdiction to this area, or by such other methods as it <br />may deem feasible. City Manager showed a map illustrating area and jurisdictions <br />contributing to situation from construction of improvements in upstream drainage <br />facilities. He said from report by Mr. Adamson it was indicated City's participation <br />would not amount to over 10% in this situation, no monetary commitments having been <br />made. Motion seconded by Councilman Granger and carried on roll call vote, Coun- <br />cilman Rosselli being noted absent. <br />Dead -End Streets Program. City Manager advised a full report on this program had been <br />previously submitted to Council and that it was still the consensus of Staff that <br />the improvement of these streets should be considered along with the total traffic <br />circulation portion of the General Plan. He stated Planning Director also concurred <br />in delaying improvements for these few streets until their relationship to the over- <br />all traffic pattern has been determined to the General Plan. <br />Councilman Petersen moved to introduce Ordinance amending Section 41 of Ordinance No, <br />1232, the Salary Ordinance of the City of Redwood City, pertaining to salary for <br />position of Director of Public Works -City Engineer, to be operative as of July 1, 1966. <br />Ordinance will provide for the salary of $18,500 per year to become effective when <br />Mr. Scherer reports for work. Unless ordinance is introduced at this meeting it <br />would not be effective for the pay period ending July 15, 1966. Motion seconded <br />by Councilman Keckley and carried, <br />COMMUNICATIONS: <br />Acceptance of position of Director of Public Works <br />from J. Louis Scherer. <br />Request of Condor Legion Model Plane Club, for use <br />of Community Park for their annual model plane con- <br />test on Sunday August 21, 1966. <br />City Manager stated this request had been approved by the Park and Recreation <br />Commission for recommendation to the Council. Councilman Granger moved that per- <br />mission be granted, based on recommendation of City Manager and Park and Recreation <br />Commission, seconded by Councilman Bury and carried. (MINUTE ORDER #66-128). <br />Councilman Bury asked that Council appoint City Historian as recommended by Centennial <br />Committee as soon as possible in order he might officially act on this program. <br />
