Minutes of Regular Weekly Study Meeting <br />Redwood City Council <br />August 1, 1966 7:30 P. M. <br />Meeting call to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Herkner. <br />Discussion held on consideration of appointment to the Planning Commission. Councilman <br />Rosselli stated due to fact two nominees proposed to this Commission resulted in a <br />tie vote of the Council at the last meeting, he would like to nominate an additional <br />candidate, Robert Q. Buickerood, previously under consideration for this Commission, <br />and summarized his qualifications. <br />Mayor Herkner asked whether Council would prefer to postpone taking action on this <br />matter until a full Council present, particularly in view of additional nominee <br />being presented. After further discussion as to whether action should be continued <br />on this matter, majority of Council indicated they favored action being taken at <br />this meeting. Councilman Henderson protested usual straw ballot procedure in view <br />of unfavorable recent publicity given this procedure. Council discussion on this <br />procedure indicated majority favored usual straw ballot procedure as being least <br />likely to embarrass unsuccessful nominees. <br />Harold Stehle, former Councilman, commented on value of Council's continuing <br />practice of straw ballot procedure for best interests of all concerned. <br />Councilman Rosselli nominated Robert Buickerood. Councilman Petersen nominated <br />Marty Mohr. Councilman Granger nominated Henry Gall. Councilman Henderson <br />requested balloting be accomplished by voice vote. <br />After two straw ballots resulted in tie votes between two nominees, Mayor Herkner <br />ordered this matter continued until full Council present. <br />Councilman Henderson asked that report due from City Manager on August 8th on Woodside - <br />Middlefield Overpass and Friendly Acres Water System acquisition be continued to <br />August 15th in view of his vacation absence at next Council meeting. Councilman <br />Henderson also requested that notification of the report schedule to be made to <br />Council of these two items be given to some of those interested. (Memo 8/2/66) <br />Councilman Bury commented on noticeable aroma in East side of City and questioned its <br />cause. City Manager stated a check would be made as to cause and reported. <br />(Memo 8/2/66) <br />Councilman Henderson asked that a copy of the City Manager's recommendations concerning <br />the Swimming Pool at Hoover School be sent to the School Board, if it had not <br />already been sent.
