<br />portions of existing Winslow Street between Standish Street and Hopkins Avenue, and
<br />also, including channelization, signalization, and safety lighting. Preliminary

<br />estimate of cost, including right-of-way, engineering, construction, and contingencies,
<br />is $299,250. Adequate financing reported as having been budgeted from Gas Tax Funds
<br />in the amount of $294,000 and Sales Tax Funds in the amount of $12,000. Project has
<br />been approved by the State Highways Department. Motion seconded by Councilman
<br />Granger. On question, Councilman Bury questioned destiny of trees in right-of-way
<br />areas and possibility of any being saved. City Manager advised some fourteen palm
<br />trees were to be saved as part of plan, but other trees not considered worth time
<br />and expense to move. Motion carried unanimously on roll call vote, Councilman
<br />Keckley being noted absent.

<br />Staff recommended award to low bidder, Ray Elliott & Associates.
<br />City Manager recommended acceptance of base bid of low bidder, in the amount of
<br />$219,000, but also agreed with Architect, Mr. Nobler, that Alternate 1, which
<br />includes additional paving for easterly portion of the site, should not be done at
<br />this time, because of possible damage which might occur to paving by construction
<br />equipment during phase 2 work on the Multi -Purpose Building. He also recommended,
<br />however, Alternate No. 2, including kitchen equipment in sum of $12,300 be included
<br />in award, together with Alternate No. 3, including T.V. and sound outlets in sum of
<br />$600, making a total contract price of $231,900. He further recommended that the
<br />difference between the budgeted funds and the base bid, $16,100, be held until such
<br />time as the cost of the furnishings and the landscaping by City forces has been
<br />determined.
<br />Jack Stuart, Chairman of Park and Recreation Commission,
<br />stated bid considered excellent and urged Council award
<br />contract so building could proceed.
<br />Mayor Herkner introduced architect of Multi -Purpose Building, Bernard Nobler, and
<br />contractor, Mr. Ray Elliott.
<br />Councilman Granger moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5108 AWARDING CONTRACT FOR THE CON-
<br />STRUCTION OF COMMUNITY PARK MULTI-PURPOSE BUILDING, seconded by Councilman Rosselli
<br />and carried unanimously on roll call vote, Councilman Keckley being noted absent.
<br />Councilman Petersen moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5109 APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING EXE-
<br />CUTION OF FIRE PROTECTION AGREEMENT WITH SEQUOIA HOSPITAL DISTRICT. Fire Chief
<br />requested this action in order to establish jurisdiction and legal protection in
<br />responding to Hospital emergencies as City has assumed this responsibility because
<br />of fire alarm system of hospital being directly connected to our Fire Department.
