Meeting adjourned at 11:40 p.m. n
HELEN C. MOORE, City Clerk
Minutes of Regular Weeklyly Study Meeting
Redwood City Council
November 7, 1966 7:30 P. m.
Meeting called to order by Mayor Herkner at 7:30 p.m., with announcement of new policy
as adopted by Ordinance that Weekly Study Meeting would be held in the Board of
Supervisors Chambers from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for purpose of Council's informal
discussion and review of Agenda items, Regular Legislative meeting to be commenced at
8:00 p.m. as usual.
In discussion of two applications for CATV licenses, Councilman Bury questioned City
Attorney on effectiveness of City's Undergrounding Ordinance for requiring underground
installation by applicants for CATV franchise. City Attorney explained provisions
of present Undergrounding Ordinance to provide for undergrounding utilities in
several situations such as new Subdivisions and where an Undergrounding District
had been formed and would uniformly include CATV cables. He further explained CATV
Ordinance provides that Catv systems can be required to go underground at the same
time as other utilities are required to go underground, not specifically requiring
CATV line to go underground. He advised undergrounding requirement could be made a
part of the conditions of the franchise, but would recommend amending Ordinance
rather than attempting to add this as a condition to a franchise. After ssxaxat
further discussion and questioning regarding undergrounding, several of Council
indicated desire that no action be taken by Council on these applications until more
information obtained as to undergrounding requirements for cables and costs involved
to both applicants and the subscribers to the service. Further discussion deferred
to regular legislative meeting.
Councilman Henderson questioned Grading Ordinance and report on Chestnut Park not having
been placed on this week's Agenda. City Manager advised both these items had not
been specifically requested for this date, but advised he had reviewed the proposed
Grading Ordinance with Mr. Fred Gates as had been requested and felt problems had
been resolved through minor questions of interpretation.
