334
City Manager advised plans for Chestnut Park were ready with costs to be presented for
two plans, amount of one for a first class job, including landscaping and playground
equip ment, and one for a lesser amount. Council requested report when made to
Council also include report from Park and Recreation Commission; also possibility of
making this a small park area only and acquiring other land for the playground.
Mayor Herkner asked this item be on Council's Agenda next week. (Nov. 14th)
(Memo 11/8/66)
Councilman Rosselli briefly discussed unsightly condition of political signs throughout
the City at this time and questioned whether Sign Committee had considered possibili$
of eliminating political signs entirely and if City Attorney had been consulted as
to whether sign ordinance could contain definite penalties for ciolations. Council-
man Keckley, Chairman of Sign Committee, advised City Attorney's office had been
represented at all Committee meetings and could answer legality of abolishing
political signs.
Councilman Keckley did suggest possibility that recommendations be held until after
election. Councilman Henderson felt item should be left on to at least inaugurate
discussion and agreed perhaps best to hold off a decision.
Councilman Rosselli suggested three members eligible for reappointment to the Veterans
Memorial Commission be contacted to see if they would be willing to serve another
term. Council members also asked to submit other candidates for this Commission if
they so desired.
Councilman Rosselli stated his opposition to making a final decision on County's pro-
posal for a contribution from City's hotel -motel tax for County -side promotional
program because, as one of the sponsors of this tax he had intended it to be an
increased revenue to the City with hope of decreasing property tax; that too few
cities in the County had indicated their intention to likewise participate, and
lack of concrete information being submitted on County's intended program.
Councilman Granter stressed his feeling that City should cooperate in County's
request and also reminded Council of his stipulation to the County that should less
than 2/3 of cities join program, Redwood City would not be held to any commit-
ment made. Further discussion deferred to regular meeting.
Councilman Bury asked if Council would be willing to accept request for another hearing
on Charles Woods' Use Permit in view of discussions he related with both the proper-
ty owner and Mr. Woods as to their inability to accomplish all improvements within
the framework of the one year limitation imposed on the recently amended Use Permit
granted by Council. City Attorney advised of his having suggested to both parties
in this matter of an appropriate method for placing this matter for rehearing by
applying for an amended Use Permit and if this was done, issue would automatically
come before the Council again for a rehearing.
