p11'0
secure participation of 2/3 of other cities in County, City be allowed to withdraw.
Maker did not consent to addition. Mayor Herkner asked for second to motion as
originally stated by maker. Motion died for lack of a second.
Councilman Granger moved that City agree to contribute 25% of the proceeds of the
Transient Occupancy Tax to the County for promotion, but that if the County cannot
secure participation by 2/3 of the Cities within the County, Redwood City will not
be bound by any agreement, seconded by Councilman Petersen.
Mayor Herkner requested Vice Mayor to take the chair in order he might make a motion.
Mayor Herkner moved to amend motion made to limit the amount of contribution to a
maximum of $10,000 annually. Motion died for lack of a second. Mayor Herkner
resumed the Chair.
Councilman Rosselli reported this matter had been discussed at length at the last
Council of Mayors and that majority of cities represented had not indicated their
agreement to contribute to this program with their tax revenue from this source.
Councilman Rosselli felt it obligatory of City to keep their commitment when ordinance
enacted that this revenue would be used for reduction of property taxes, and felt
to exploit these funds now for this purpose useless, particularly in view of advent
of Marine World and publicity that would result.
Councilman Henderson expressed her opinion as to desirability of keeping this
revenue in City, but also expressed sympathy with Councilman Granger's desire to
cooperate with County despite fact County had not presented any specifics concerning
program or how money to be used, and until County could offer something more precise,
felt no basis existed for considering participation in such a program. Councilman
Henderson therefore, moved this item be tabled, seconded by Councilman Rosselli
and lost on roll call vote, Councilmen Bury, Henderson and Rosselli voting yes,
Councilmen Granger, Keckley, Petersen and Mayor Herkner voting no.
Councilman Keckley stated he does not favor any percentage commitment for a pro-
posed contribution in view of new projects expected in the City, and the influx
of further hotels -motels which could be expected and trenendous amounts of revenue
may result. He favored suggestion made to limit amount of monies to be contri-
buted if any such agreement reached. Councilman Bury felt cooperation with the
County would be beneficial to City, and asked that Councilman Granger's original
motion, as seconded by Councilman Petersen to contribute 25% of revenue from hotel -
motel tax, not to exceed $10,000 per year, and also stipulating that unless 2/3
of cities in County join in this program for contributing funds to County, Redwood
City will not be bound to their commitment, be put to a vote. Motion carried on
roll call vote, Councilman Bury, Granger, Keckley, Petersen and Mayor Herkner
voting yes, Councilman Henderson and Rosselli voting no. (MINUTE ORDER #66-227)
Street name change request - "Northumberland" to "Boicelli".
Councilman Keckley asked whether Staff report and recommendation remained the
same as when this matter last presented. City Manager advised Council Staff
recommendation remained same, in that street not be renamed. Councilman Keckley
moved to deny the requested street name change, seconded by Councilman Henderson.
