e941
On question, Councilman Rosselli reiterated his statements concerning background of
this family and their ownership of this property for many years and urged Council
reconsider renaming this street as requested.
Councilman Bury felt strongest support for argument to name a street for Boicelli
family was due to general acceptance of this name being on earlier street maps, but
felt new conditions dod not merit changing name, but moved to amend motion to deny
request to change Northumberland street to Boicelli, by adding that in the event we
deny request, a future street be named for the Boicelli family.
Councilman Petersen questioned whether amendment didn't specifically change whole
concept of original motion. Amended motion clarified to state Northumberland Street
not be changed but Council to indicate their willingness to name another future
street in the area for them, seconded by Councilman Rosselli.
Councilman Keckley pointed out he had previously submitted a list containing some
48 names of people who have been recognized as outstanding citizens because of
their tremendous contribution to civic programs as well as having a record of longevity
for residence and asked that a statement of the civic contributions and accomplish-
ments of the Boicelli family be submitted.
Mr. Boicelli reported all former maps of City carried their
name for this street, and advised of letter received from
Fire Department of Menlo Park, Sheriff's office, and Postmaster,
stating they would not oppose street name change.
11-1 Councilman Henderson questioned any other street proposed for this area and was
advised none contemplated at present. Amendment as made to deny request for street
name change and indicate willingness to name a future street in the area for the
family lost on roll call vote, Councilmen Bury, Rosselli and Mayor Herkner voting
yes, Councilmen Granger, Henderson, Keckley and Petersen voting no. Original motion
to deny the request for street name change carried on roll call vote, Councilmen Bury,
Henderson, Keckley, Petersen and Mayor Herkner voting yes, Councilman Granger and
Rosselli voting no. (MINUTE ORDER #66-228)
Pedestrian Crossing on Woodside Road at Washington School.
Councilman Bury's report of meeting held at Washington School at request of Mrs. Robert
Filippi, Secretary of the Citizens Committee for the Washington School Area,
attended by City Manager, Councilman Rosselli Assemblyman Britschgi, Senator Dol -
wig, Police Chief, and Traffic Engineer was read in full.
Report stated a petition had been circulated requesting immediate installation of a
pedestrian -controlled signal, located at the crosswalk immediately in front of
Washington School due to increased traffic volume on Woodside Road. The following
points were reported regarding this proposed installation:
1. The pedestrian -controlled signal would actually increase
the hazards rather than decrease them, children operating
such signals not properly observing traffic conditions
and their safety being entirely dependent upon a mechanical
device.
